EU‑Funded Event in Famagusta Highlights Safety in Products and Green Line Trade Opportunities

Funded by the European Union, the EU One‑Stop Shop project and the Market Surveillance Capacity Development project jointly hosted an awareness‑raising event in Famagusta, bringing together producers, traders, business associations, and community stakeholders to explore the opportunities offered by Green Line Trade and the importance of safe, compliant products for accessing the EU common market.

Both projects work to strengthen cross‑community economic cooperation, improve product safety and quality standards, and build trust between consumers, producers, and traders across the island. The event highlighted how enhanced compliance and a better understanding of EU requirements can open new commercial pathways for Cypriot businesses.

Participants received practical guidance on the requirements and opportunities under the Green Line Regulation, along with essential product safety, quality, and documentation standards needed for EU market access. They were also introduced to the support services offered through the EU OSS and MSCD projects, explored ways to strengthen consumer and buyer trust across communities, and discussed practical steps to expand product reach while improving cross‑community business relationships.

A special highlight of the event was a theatre performance designed to creatively illustrate the importance of product safety, consumer protection, and trust‑building in cross‑community trade. The performance engaged the audience in an accessible and memorable way, reinforcing key messages about compliance and cooperation.

Representatives of the European Commission reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting confidence‑building measures and economic integration in Cyprus. They emphasized that raising awareness of GLT opportunities and promoting safe, compliant products are essential to fostering a more resilient and cooperative economic environment.

The event drew strong engagement from local producers and traders, who expressed interest in further training, business support, and upcoming activities organized by both projects.

The EU will continue to support activities that promote trust, compliance, and sustainable cross‑community trade, contributing to shared prosperity across the island.
